The mechanics

How romance and social engineering operations are run

Contact begins as a wrong number, a mistaken group invite, or a match that quickly moves to a private messenger. Weeks of consistent, warm, entirely normal conversation build a real relationship before money is ever mentioned, and when it is, it is framed as an opportunity being shared rather than a request. The target is walked onto a trading platform the other person controls, or asked to help with a medical bill, a frozen account, or a customs charge. Photographs and voice notes are real people whose media was taken from elsewhere.

Checks that break it

  1. 01Treat any investment introduced by someone you met online as fraud, no matter how long you have spoken.
  2. 02Reverse image search the profile photos and ask for an unscheduled live video call.
  3. 03Money that must move urgently and privately, without your family knowing, is the pattern itself.
